Who's who

Elders

John Cowley      Pastor

I am married to Esther and have 3 lovely daughters. I wasn’t from a religious family but became a Christian in my teens. After 7 years in local government human resources I was called to work for the church at Forest Fold and have had the privilege of serving in it since 1998. In 2008 the church asked me to be pastor, so with the other elders I try to lead the church and teach from the Bible at a lot of the services. I still attempt to play 5 aside football with those younger than me – but the reflexes are slowing up! Of the many great verses in the Bible, my favourite is ‘but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us’ – Rom 5 v8.

Simon Hook    Assistant pastor

Si grew up in Crowborough and worked for 10 years in an accountancy practice before becoming the assistant Pastor at Forest Fold. He studied at London Seminary and oversees the youth work and the 20s & 30s. Si is a Spurs fan who enjoys going to the gym and playing snooker and golf badly.

One of his favourite verses is Galatians 2: 21 'the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me'.

Stephen Sharpe      Elder

Coming to Forest Fold as a young boy was not my idea of the most enjoyable way to spend Sundays but in my early 20's God showed me that I was a sinner and that I needed to be saved.  Over 50 years later the text " When I see the blood I will pass over you " is still as precious to me as it was when I was converted. My work as an Elder is to support John and Simon in their pastoral duties. After retiring as a Chartered Surveyor I have become involved with a charity distributing Christian books and Bibles in Africa and beyond. It is a delight to live in an area with such beautiful countryside and I and my wife take great pleasure in exploring Ashdown Forest.
